Nutrisystem Week 4: Plateau's Happen

Let me tell you a little about my week on Nutrisystem.  After last week's 0.5 pound gain, I was determined to lose it plus some!  I was on a mission and I went into this week full force.  I bumped up my exercise, I started walking at lunch breaks and walking flights of stairs for ~15 to 20 minutes.  I would huff and puff up that stair well just knowing the weight is falling off.  And the next day when my calves were so sore I could barely walk, I knew this week was going to show a lower number on that scale.  I totally stuck to my eating program and even ate under my daily calories occasionally.  The scale won't have nothing on me this week, I am going to see "Biggest Loser" weight loss numbers!  Maybe even double digits!  I could not wait to see what it read.

And so I hopped on...  And ...

I. stayed. the. same. weight.

But you know what?  That is OK.  Because I know I am on the right path, I know if I keep on living this lifestyle, the weight WILL come off.  It might not come off as fast as I would like but the fact of the matter is, it will.

So, I scoured the internet for some tips on how to get past this plateau.  I thought I would share some with you all today!

1. Don't skip meals and track your food I know it may seem strange to hear but eating TOO little can actually be harmful to your weight loss success.  Skipping meals can actually slow down your metabolism and cause you to be so hungry that you will overeat on your next meal.  Also, not getting in enough calories per day can cause your body to go into starvation mode and start storing fat!  Keep track of your calories and make sure you are taking in a good balance of protein, carbs and fat.

2. Mix it up Don't you get bored with the same thing over and over?  Well, so does your body!  It becomes accustomed to situations VERY fast.  So, mix things up!  Eat different foods, do different work outs and get out of that monotonous routine.  Your body and the scale will thank you for it later.

3. Drink more water  It's always about the water, isn't it?  Well the fact is, if you are dehydrated your body will actually retain water.  So, drink drink drink!

4. Measure your portions carefully  If you are estimating your portion sizes you might not be counting all the calories you are consuming.  I am totally guilty of this, like those times I count a WALLOP of peanut butter as one tablespoon.  Don't cheat because you are only cheating yourself!

5. Move, Move, Move! This is one thing I really need to step up on.  Exercise is certainly key for a successful weight loss regimen.  So, let's do this!

Weekly Weight Loss: 0 pounds

Total Weight Loss: 7 pounds

Weight Loss Goal for Next Week: 3 pounds

  1. Thank you for this post! I just book marked you. I am on a weight loss journey too. But I spend more time falling off my plan than staying on it. One day...one day

  2. Don't lose hope! I have been on a plateau for 2 weeks straight now at the end of week 8! I almost want to cry, but I did my measurements and I saw a half inch here, 1/4 inch there, etc so just doing what we should is working even when the scales refuse to budge!

  5. Good for you! Plateaus are totally normal and the best thing you could have done was to find out how to break through it. You are definitely on the right track - good luck for next week's goal :)

  7. Great guide, but I would warn people not to drink TOO much water. Not only can you be dehydrated, but you can be over hydrated. Mo brother was hospitalized for it.
