It seems like yesterday when I received my first Nutrisystem food package in the mail, I can not believe I have now been on the program for 11 whole weeks! When I began my journey as a Nutrisystem blogger, my first thought was "Oh no, I will be on Nutrisystem through the holidays. That's the most difficult time for me!" Seriously, every holiday season usually ends up with at least an extra 10 pounds right to the derriere!
The holiday weight gain usually begins during Halloween and lasts until a few weeks after Christmas, I just can not pass up "marked down" Christmas chocolate! Well, this year I got through Halloween pretty unscathed and actually LOST a pound, miraculous! However, this week was going to be the real test; it was Thanksgiving week, a day of eating, eating and MORE eating. How will I survive this holiday?!
How I am Surviving The Holidays
Indulge: I know that might seem a little counterproductive but the more you deprive yourself during the holidays the more likely you will to binge. So, I am allowing myself two days, yup I said TWO days, to indulge. Now, that does not mean I am going to get all crazy and eat from a nonstop fatty buffet for two days but I am going to allow myself to eat things I enjoy without feeling guilty about it!
Make Healthier Dishes: This is something I have always been a proponent of. This Thanksgiving I scoured the internet and Pinterest and found many, MANY traditional recipes that I love made in a much healthier way. And let me tell you, they tasted great if not better than the fattier version!
Mix In Your Nutrisystem Food: Thanksgiving Day does not have to be filled with huge breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Thankgiving morning, I actually had a Nutrisystem blueberry muffin for breakfast and later that evening I satisfied my sweet tooth with a Nutrisystem dessert.
Go Shopping: What a great excuse to go shopping!!! Nix the online shopping for actually slipping into your tennis shoes and hitting the malls. You wouldn't believe the calories I burned yesterday for Black Friday! And if your significant other complains about the credit card bill, just tell them it was an investment in your health!
Get Your Z's: Even if you keep your food and exercise in check, not getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep a day can have adverse effects to your weight loss. So make sure you take care of yourself through this holiday season because a happier body will produce a happier YOU!
I Survived Thanksgiving! By sticking to my tips, I actually lost a pound this week. Unbelievable! I can not remember ever losing weight over Thanksgiving. Once again, thank you Nutrisystem for providing me with the tools for success!

That is a great way to make it through the holidays. I always tell my family to stay out of my kitchen while I am making the food. They do not realize it is because I am making a healthier version and if they see it, they will refuse to eat it because it tastes different. They never realize because they do not see that I blend up veggies to put in the stuffing, or use activia for the cranberry sauce.
ReplyDeleteGreat suggestions, good you had a plan so hard to be good at the Holidays.

Great job! I agree about indulging... a couple days isn't going to set you back too badly unless you completely fall off track. When I was doing Weight Watchers they said to indulge in only the things we don't normally have - that kept me in check pretty well!
ReplyDeleteYou're doing so good! Keep up the awesome work!
ReplyDeleteWell done for losing 13 lbs! I love the "Go Shopping" tip amongst the list. I go shopping for grocery items in my running shoes :D and never get tired even if at the mall for the whole day lol
