PersonaLabs Online Blood Testing: Targeted Risk Assessment

Last year I began having health problems, I started coming down with sickness after sickness, having dizzy spells and overall just felt lethargic.  After a visit with my primary doctor, it was suspected I had anemia (low iron counts) and was referred to a Hematologist.  Hoping to find an answer to this issue I immediately called to make an appointment, but when I did, the earliest I could get was 2 months away...  really?!  I would have to wonder what was wrong with me for an entire 2 months?!  Typical me, I started worrying that it could be something way worse; my mind started racing and I started scouring the internet with my symptoms.  Bad idea but I just wanted to know what was wrong with me!

Well, in the midst of my hypochondriatic episode I finally made it into the doctors and it turned out that I did indeed have anemia, which was a relief, but in this day in age should I have been made 2 months to find this out?  I'm convinced that something is definitely wrong with our healthcare system.  Not only is the rising cost in healthcare a problem but so is the red tape (2 months... really?!).  How can we as patients take control of our health?  This is why I am now a believer in PersonaLabs online blood testing!

"PersonaLabs was founded to give individuals the ability to take charge of their own healthcare through affordable, accessible, confidential laboratory tests and risk assessments."

PersonaLabs gives you easy, online access to state of the art lab tests (the same test your doctor is likely to order) at a fraction of the cost!  That's right, not only do they offer laboratory tests at a significantly lower price but they also allow you the option to take charge of your own health!

PersonaLabs offers a LARGE variety of tests to serve all individuals needs, from male/female specific test to preventative tests.  When was the last time you visited your doctor and took preventative tests?  I do not remember the doctor running blood test when something was not "wrong" with me.  But why aren't they?  Research shows that 80% of chronic diseases can be prevented but the only way to do so is to keep on top of our health!  PersonaLabs allows you to take specific steps to a healthy future with their Targeted Risk Assessment.

The PersonaLab website is very easy to navigate, you can access their tests from the main page by simply clicking on the "Tests" tab and choosing from the list of Male tests, Female tests, General tests, etc.  I easily found the TRA (Targeted Risk Assessment) under General tests and added it to my cart.  Once paid, I accessed the TRA questionnaire under my account information.  This was a basic questionnaire about your medical history, family history and current medical information.  Unlike most doctor forms, this was NOT a pain to fill out and took a reasonably short amount of time.  Once completed, I was then able to print out my Lab order and take it to a nearby LabCorp.
Now let me tell you just how awesome it was to visit the LabCorp.  When was the last time you went to have tests done at a doctors office and did NOT have to wait?  Never?  Well, guess what?!  I had NO WAIT AT ALL!!!  Can you believe it?  It took me less than 10 minutes to walk into the LabCorp facility, have my blood drawn and walk back to my car.  How awesome is that?!  And if you are worried about having a nearby LabCorp you can rest your mind because they have over 1,700 professional labs across the US.  There were actually 3 near my home with the closest one being less than 2 miles away!  I have never had such an easy experience getting a medical test done in my life.  And believe me, I have had my share of tests done!

The ease of the blood tests was not even the best part, less than 48 hours later I received my results!  I was completely impressed with the speed of PersonaLabs but also the detailed information they provided to me.  My results consisted of an 8 pages filled with my raw counts, the range I was in, the meaning of the values and my risk factors.  Along with this, I was also provided with steps to take to prevent these "risk factors."

If you are like me, you might already know what steps you should be taking in order to prevent some of these medical conditions.  Losing weight and exercising is something I have been actively working towards for many, many years now but having the numbers in front of me was a definite motivation to keep on the right path.

  2. Great idea with this site. I can't believe you initially waited two months to get in! The stress of that alone should make it illegal (stress is so bad for you!)

  5. Having anemia, myself, I know that it can make you feel crappy. Waiting 2 months is crap. And oftentimes you wait 2 months, then sit in the doctor's office for 2 hours and he sees you for maybe 10 minutes and schedules you for a follow up after doing nothing or even listening. Ridiculous. Thanks for telling me about this program.

  13. I've had the experience of having to wait a while and it stinks. I'm glad to know there's a way that we can determine our basic health levels without also having to pay a doctor's fee.
