It's been 21 weeks since I first began the Nutrisystem program! Today as I hopped on the scale, I wanted to scream because for two weeks that sucker has not budged! I guess it is a good thing that I haven't gained but i want movement (in the negative direction)!
After a few choiced words directed at the scale, I stomped off to pout on my computer. As I played around online, I happened on a post from a friend of mine. Sharon from A Little Bit Of Everything is on a weight loss journey herself and wrote a post about her battle with the scale. How fitting, right? Something in her post really touched me, it was a game she played with her daughter. Her daughter would get on the scale and ask what it says. She replied "It says you are perfect." This hit home big time! You see, my little girl watches me and likes to "mimic" me. She sometimes hops on the scale herself and asks "Mommy, how many pounds am I?" I would tell her but since reading Sharon's post, I now say...
And she is and so am I.
The scale does not define me nor does the number on the scale prove my worth. I am a success, not because of how many pounds I have lost but because of how hard I work at making better eating choices and taking care of my body. Sure, Nutrisystem provides me with awesome food to make this weight loss journey much easier but I work my butt off, literally! And for that, I totally rock! The scale might not always show it but I know my body thanks me.

Great message!!
ReplyDeleteI would put that on a big sign as a gentle reminder, you are a BIG success and deserve to feel great about it! Oh and loose what's her name from down below, she is far from the norm...haha :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great message!
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome response! I've always tried to tell my kids that they are just right when they weigh - now I have the perfect response - you are perfect!
ReplyDeleteThat was so sweet. Thanks for sharing. I will definitely tell my daughter the same thing the next time she stands on the scale.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. What a sweet story. I will remember to tell my daughter the same thing from now on.
ReplyDeleteGreat job :) Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteYou can do it! I have total faith in you. :)
ReplyDeleteDawn
So true. Keep surging forward!
ReplyDeleteI think it's so important to try and instill these values. Especially for young girls. They will have so much thrown at them over their life. If we can get them to think they are PERFECT just the way they are, maybe we can get over all the negative body images. And maybe they can change the world on how they see woman.
ReplyDeleteWe as woman have done so many wonderful things with our bodies. We need to make sure our kids dont' have the same body image that we have.
I love this! I never let my girls see me weigh myself but if they do, I know what to say now!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work! I know it's frustrating not to see the scale budge but the numbers don't tell the whole story. And the most important thing is that you are getting healthy!
I just love that picture! I try so hard to not talk about losing weight around my kids!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great message! I noticed even my 3 year old daughter has noticed me on my scale and she mimics and gets on herself. So far, I've been cheering her on no matter what it read, but I think I love this message even better! Although I'm trying to lose weight for my health, she doesn't understand that. She just sees mommy trying to get smaller numbers. That's all little girls understand. So the message of she is perfect is very fitting and what I'll be using from now on.
ReplyDeleteI've had to come to that realization myself. I have worth not matter my size! Great job teaching your daughter that early!
ReplyDeleteGreat job and keep up with the good work! Remember, you are doing this to feel good too so don't focus on just the size :D
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Mine hasn't moved this last week either, and I actually am using it as motivation to get myself moving and in better shape.
ReplyDeleteI love this story, thank you so much for sharing with us! I really need to be so much more careful with what I say about myself in front of my girls. I do not want them to feel insecure with themselves because of anything I feel about myself. Leading by example!
ReplyDeleteThis is so true and a great way to look at it. You are working towards being healthy and doing a great job.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! So important what we teach our children!
ReplyDeleteYou are ROCKIN' girl!!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI really wish my mother had instilled something like this in me. As a child she hated the scale and it was always a negative experience to the point she got rid of them all. Now I find myself obsessed and wanting to break mine in half. I'd say it's a good thing I don't have a daughter, but it dawned on me reading this post that my habits are becoming negative on my boys as well since my oldest is now wanting to diet because the scale says he is overweight. Time to rethink things!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on keeping a positive attitude. Not many would. Most would get discouraged very quickly. Keep up the good work!
