Miracles From Heaven: Interviews with Producers Joe Roth, T.D. Jakes, DeVon Franklin, Director Patricia Riggin and Eugenio Derbez

I was invited to an expense paid trip to participate in Miracles From Heaven press event.

This Wednesday, March 16th, Miracles From Heaven opens in theaters everywhere!  I had the opportunity to interview some of the talent that were not only onscreen but behind the scenes in making of this awesome film.  Last week I shared a bit of my interview from Queen Latifah and Kylie Rogers, this week I continue with interviews and give you a full review of the movie.  Check out some of the highlights from my interviews with Eugenio Derbez, Director Patricia Riggin and Producers T.D. Jakes, Joe Roth and DeVon Franklin!

What message did Director Patricia Riggin want to send to viewers?
I know miracles like this comes rarely. I realize that there is goodness around us that is also part of miracles. I wanted to make sure we got that message out. This is how the flashbacks came out. As Kristy Beam and her family were struggling, there were all these little hands helping along the way. Little Angels that were helping them through those difficult moments, I think that is something we all can relate to.
Did Eugenio Derbez meet the real Dr. Nurko and what happened to the infamous Elmo tie?
He has the tie. There is footage of me giving Dr Nurko the tie, he went to the set when we were filming, and that was kind of freaky. But I loved it. He is an amazing human being and he trained me before the movie. We would talk through Skype many times and I went to the hospital and met with him. The challenge was not learning how to do an endoscopy or manage this procedure or that procedure. It was to obtain the real Dr. Nurko feeling, to see how he is, to portray his sole, not just the name. He is very shy but at the same time he is very charming. When you see him and you want to hug him.
Patricia Riggin on being a female Director.
There are a very low percentage of female Directors in this country. Only 7-8% are female directors, it’s a tough battle to fight every day. I feel very fortunate to work steadily. I try to do my best because I have a huge responsibility for all the ladies that come after me. I hope this movie is successful and it will open doors for other women.

How Did Producers Joe Roth, T.D. Jakes & DeVon Franklin Choose This Film?
T.D. Jakes: I think what resonated with me was that the story was true. I met the Beam family, they are very believable, they aren’t cooky or strange. You can relate to a Mother’s love for her child. The story was at times painful and powerful and yet ultimately uplifting. It’s a great story.
Joe Roth: We read a lot of stories and we look for many things, authenticity being one of them. It was a very authentic and relate-able story, a story people can derive hope from.
DeVon Franklin: When I first read the story, I could not put it down. It was so compelling. In real life, this happened over a period of 5 years and that is what is explored in the book. When you put yourself in that mind frame of dealing with the illness daily, never giving up, staying committed, staying faithful and figuring out life in the midst of all of that; it was so compelling. We had to figure out how to make it a movie.
