Miracles From Heaven Movie Review: Opens TODAY March 16th

Miracles From Heaven opens TODAY, March 16th, in theaters everywhere.  I was able to attend a press junket for the movie and interview much of the talent from the film.  It was an amazing event and you can check out some of my interviews including Queen Latifah/ Kylie Rogers and The Director & Producers of the film.

SynopsisAnna Beam (Kylie Rogers) lives with a rare, incurable disorder that leaves her unable to digest food. Despite the dire diagnosis, devoted mom Christy (Jennifer Garner) relentlessly searches for a way to save her beloved daughter. Everything changes in an instant when Anna tells an amazing story of a visit to heaven after surviving a headlong tumble into a tree. Her family and doctors become even more baffled when the young girl begins to show signs of recovering from her fatal condition.

I was prepared going into the film, I had heard much about the book and knew it would be a tear jerker.  So as I walked into the theater, I had my tissues in hand!  The movie began introducing the Beam family and their very strong faith in God, each other and their community.  Then one day, tragedy hits.  Anna Beam is diagnosed with a fatal disease and the fight for her life begins.  It brought me back to a couple of years ago when my Nephew was born.  You see, at birth he was diagnosed with Gaucher’s Disease.  There are actually 3 types of Gaucher’s Disease and he had to be genetically screened to determine what type he had.  We were hoping and praying for Type 1.  If he had Type 1 at least he could live, he could receive treatment every week for the rest of his life but he would HAVE a life.  He would not be so lucky if he had Type 2 or 3, he would not live past the age of 3.

It took a little over a month for the results on my Nephew to return.  That month was the most painful month for my family.  We prayed, we cried, we questioned everything; pretty much like Kristy Beam did when she was dealing with Anna’s disease.  And then a Miracle happened, it was not a huge miracle like falling down a tree and coming out unscathed, like what happened to Anna but it was a miracle nonetheless.  My Nephew had Type 1 Gaucher’s, he would live.

One thing I truly loved about Miracles From Heaven was the fact that it did not focus primarily on the HUGE miracle that turned Anna’s health around but the fact that miracles were happening every day throughout her struggle.  Miracles DO happen every day; the big, the small and they even happen when no one is looking.  The fact that my Nephew will live a long and happy life is a miracle.  The fact that Anna recovered from a fatal diagnosis is a miracle and the fact that Kristy Beam was able to touch the hearts and souls of all of us that have struggled with horrific circumstances is a miracle.  I believe in miracles and this movie will have you believing in them too.  It is a MUST see!
