Kitchen Hack: Steamed Vegetables Using A Coffee Maker

I admit, my life is crazy hectic. I sometimes feel like I am on triple duty with work, kids, school, extracurricular activities and everything else life throws at me. Don’t get me wrong, I love every second of my crazy, hectic, adventurous life but I sometimes feel like I am on fast forward. Therefore, I welcome every little “life-hack” I can find! Not sure what a life-hack is? Let me inform you! The urban dictionary defines life hack as “a tool or technique that makes some aspect of one’s life easier or more efficient.” I define kitchen life hack as my saving grace.

My favorite life hacks are those that make my life a bit easier in the kitchen, hence the title of this post “Kitchen Hack: Steamed Vegetables Using A Coffee Maker.” I’ve spoken before about my kids eating habits, they are extremely picky eaters!  This picky-ness is especially true when it comes to eating vegetables, however there are a few exceptions, one being steamed carrots. I get it, I enjoy carrots and will eat them raw and in salads on a regular basis but there is just something special about a cooked carrot.  When they are cooked something magical happens, the natural sweetness of the carrot is released giving it a pure heavenly taste! Since it is one of the few vegetables the kids will eat, I try to fit them in every chance I get.  This is not always convenient.  Some nights I want a quick meal including salad and pizza, the kids will not eat salad but will ask for steamed carrots. Do I really want to go to all the trouble and mess to make it for them? I do with this amazing kitchen hack using a coffee pot!

First let me brag a bit over my new Braun BrewSense Drip Coffee Maker. I was in need of a new coffee maker; I swear my last one must have been 20 years old. No joke! So, getting a fancy dancy new one had me twirling around the house with coffee cup in hand. My BrewSense has a 12-cup FlavorCarafe with an extra-large digital display and is fully programmable. And gone are the days of waiting for the entire pot to brew before I grab a cup, it has an anti-dip system allowing it to pause when I remove the pot from its stand. I can also choose the strength of coffee I want with its brew strength selector. I am telling you, this is the coffee maker of my dreams!

With this kitchen hack, my new Braun Coffee Maker is also doubling as a vegetable steamer.!  Sounds crazy, right?  Well let me tell you, it is an amazingly easy way to steam vegetables using it.  All I did was place the carrots in the filter basket and run water through the coffee maker three times until the carrots were tender.  They came out to perfection and the clean up was a breeze!  I will never steam vegetables any other way again.
This is a sponsored post however, all opinions are my own. Braun Household does not advise the use of their products in any manner other than as suggested in the user manual and product description.
