ABC The Middle season premiere airs tonight, October 11th at 8|7c. Last month while in LA, I had opportunity to visit the show set, peek at their wardrobe and meet the stars of The Middle. This is not the first time I’ve visited the set of a popular sitcom show but it’s always exciting. Especially when the show is as hilarious as The Middle and especially since one of the stars on the show is Patricia Heaton! We also got to meet Atticus Shaffer, Charlie McDermott and Neil Flynn!
Not only did we meet the cast of The Middle, but they were also kind enough to pose for a picture with us. I am grateful they took the time out of their day to meet us because I realize how long those days on set are! Fun Fact: As I greeted Patricia Heaton, my exact words to her were, “I almost wore the same outfit you have on today! That would’ve been awkward.” I crack myself up because she was totally wearing pajamas. And now I have an awesome story about the time I made Patricia Heaton laugh.
We had a sneak peek into the costume trailer and met with Costume Designer Julia Caston. You would think being in the costume department of a hit television show, it would be extravagant. However, this show is about a middle class family, hence the title ‘The Middle’, and many of their outfits come from regular department stores.
Not only does it take some fashion sense to work in the costume department but it also takes mad organizational skills. Each character has a special section for their clothing, and within that section it looked like the clothing was arranged by the colors of the rainbow. It put my closet to shame!
If a specific outfit is worn in a scene, it’s tagged with a picture of the outfit being worn by the actor/actress. I wish I was as organized with my fashion. I have a nice selection of clothing but I often get paranoid when I see someone I know and I’m wearing the same outfit I wore the last time I saw them. I know I can’t be the only one that frets over things like this!
Meeting the cast and visiting the wardrobe department was only part of the fun. We also got to watch a bit of the filming, from afar, and walk around the set. Recognize the room in the above photo? We took a group shot sitting on the living room couch in The Middle home! It was an amazing time, it’s an amazing show and I can’t wait for the season premiere tonight!
Two-time Emmy-winner Patricia Heaton stars in this warm and witty single-camera comedy about raising a family and lowering your expectations, on the season premiere of “The Middle” on its new night, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 11 (8:00-8:30 p.m. EDT), on the ABC Television Network. Middleaged, middle class and living in the middle of the country in Orson, Indiana, Frankie Heck is a harried wife and mother of three who uses her wry wit and sense of humor to get her family through each day intact. Frankie works as a dental assistant, and her unflappable husband, Mike, is manager at the local quarry and her sardonic partner in the daily grind that is raising their average – yes, most definitely average – family.
On the season premiere episode, “The Core Group,” Frankie and Mike are excited to meet April (Greer Grammer) – the love of Axl’s life – but discover that love may indeed be blind when April reveals a quirky personality trait. Meanwhile, after getting bit by the acting bug while working at Dollywood over the summer, Sue wants to change her major to theater, and Brick is starting high school and making it his mission to try for a fresh start and not be considered one of the weird kids.
