The Real O’Neals Season 2 premiereed on ABC Tuesday, October 11th at 9:30|8:30c.  Last month, while in LA for the #QueenOfKatweEvent, I had the opportunity to vist The Real O’Neal set and meet actors Matt Shively (Jimmy, Kenny’s brother) and Bebe Wood (Shannon, Kenny’s sister).  It’s always such a pleasure to visit a popular show set and meet the cast, but this one was extra special to me.  The Real O’Neals is pushing television boundaries in unbelievable ways by tackling REAL issues, one being LGBT acceptance, in a very Catholic family.  Come take an inside look!

Who says it doesn’t snow in September in Los Angeles?  The set of The Real O’Neals was all decked out for Christmas time, which included snow!  Fun Fact: Every studio set I’ve ever visited has been extremely cold!  I’m a cold natured person but seriously, I’m not the only one who’s noticed this phenomenon.  The Real O’Neals set was no expection the day we were on set.  However, it was not cold enough to keep the snow (pictured above) frozen.  Of course it wasn’t real snow but it certainly looked like it!

One of my favorite parts when visiting a studio set, is checking out all the detail put into the set.  Especially with the home being decorated for my favorite holiday, Christmas!  I’m thinking about recreating The Real O’Neals Christmas tree in our home this year!

For some reason, I felt very at home on The Real O’Neals set.  Maybe it was due to the Christmas decor, such as the nativity scene, which reminded me of my own Catholic up-bringing.  Maybe it was because they had a picture of Pope John Paul II hanging on the wall, which matches the picture on my GrandMothers wall.real-oneal-set real-oneal-wall

But I think the main reason I felt comfortable there was because the show reflects so much of my own life.  I grew up in a strict Catholic family, attended Catholic school, and my children also attend Catholic school; however, I am a very progressive thinker and instill this thinking in my kids.  The Real O’Neals is a Catholic family with a gay teen, a topic not typically discussed in the Catholic community, but brought to the forefront in this show.  Good for you, The Real O’Neals!  Keep discussing these issues and pushing for acceptance because we will not take steps forward on these issues, if we keep ignoring them!

Tonight’s episode of The Real O’Neals Season 2 – “The Real Halloween” airs TONIGHT, Tues 10/25 at 9:30/8:30c!

When Halloween arrives, or what Kenny refers to as “the gay Super Bowl,” he plans to go to Boystown to watch the festive costume parade. In an effort to prevent Kenny from attending, Eileen agrees to let him throw his own Halloween party at home. Eileen’s tolerance is ultimately tested when Kenny recruits Stuart and his gay friends to join the big party, and he makes a BIG costume change. Meanwhile, Jimmy and Shannon plan to pull off an epic Halloween prank
