When I first heard about the FX comedy series Baskets, which stars Zach Galifianakis and Louie Anderson, I knew I had to check it out because I am a fan of both actors. When I heard Baskets was a story about a semi-close family with a mix of dysfunctionalism in it, I knew I would enjoy the show. When I received my Baskets basket in the mail over Christmas, I knew I would not just enjoy the show but LOVE it. I was correct. I absolutely, positively love Baskets on FX and I’m looking forward to the Season 2 premiere this Thursday (1/19) at 10PM EST!
In the first season, the FX comedy series ‘Baskets’ follows Chip Baskets (Zach Galifianakis) who wants to fulfill his dream of being a French clown—however, reality keeps interfering. Saddled with financial difficulties and facing an impenetrable language barrier, he moves back home to Bakersfield with high hopes. There, he is forced to confront his past while working as a rodeo clown and competing with his siblings (including his twin brother, Dale) for his mother’s (Louie Anderson) approval and affection.
What in the Baskets basket won me over?
I knew I was in for a treat immediately after I opened my Baskets basket and read the card from Christine, Chip and Dale Basket. The card read “Enjoy this silly holiday basket from bunch of Baskets!” Silly is my middle name and this basket was right up my alley! It was fun, it was quirky and it made me laugh over and over again. I have to admit, I wanted to “share” the silliness and re-gift the basket to a friend but I couldn’t bring myself to part with it! Take a look what was inside:
Along with a Schweppes Ginger Ale and a Baskets Career College planner; the basket also included this lovely (or disturbing) holiday ornament with a picture of Christine, Chip and Dale Basket! This ornament will now grace my Christmas tree for years to come. I can not get over how hilarious (and disturbing) this Baskets family photo is! I’m sure it will become a conversation starter over all holiday get-togethers. Even if no one notices the ornament, I’ll be sure to point it out!
If that wasn’t fun enough, check out the bottle of cheese balls and the CLIP-ON MAN BUN which was also in the Baskets basket! Right away, I tried to get my husband to adorn the clip-on man bun! He refused but I will not relent, one of these days! As you can tell the basket is just as funny as the series, which I also marathoned watched over holiday break. I can’t wait for the Season 2 premiere THIS Thursday 1/19. Until then, I will enjoy my cheeseballs and ginger ale.
Season 2 finds the Baskets family at its most fragile. Losing his wife and his rodeo job, Chip jumps on a train to get the hell out of Bakersfield, but a gang of gutter punks, the police and sudden death drag him right back into the drama he tried to escape. Dale’s marriage crumbles as his unrequited love affair with Martha deepens and Christine (Louie Anderson), who dedicated her life to her sons with little affection in return, takes her own happiness into consideration for once—and finds romance on the way.
