I’m attended the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES Premiere courtesy of Walt Disney Studios. All thoughts/experiences/opinions are my own!
Last Thursday, I attended the red carpet premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales! The 5th installment of the Disney hit is set to open in theaters across the nation THIS Friday, May 26th. I say ‘red carpet’ but actually the Pirates of the Caribbean premiere carpet was a seafoam green and had all the making of a great Pirate adventure, just like the movie itself!
As you can see, the red (seafoam green) carpet started off with a bit of spookiness, just like parts of the film. As I stepped upon the carpet with all my glitz and glam, I was taken a back a bit by the smoke and darkness ahead of me. I mean, I was looking too cute to rock a frightful face on that carpet. But rest assured, like the movie, the carpet did have a couple of “Spooky” parts but was mostly filled with fun and adventure. I was asked by a reader if this movie is appropriate for small children. My answer is, it depends on the child. My kids have always had a flair for the “dark side” and this movie does contain some parts that could scare some children, such as ghosts, but overall it is filled with a lot of action and laughs.
What is a Pirates of the Caribbean red carpet without pirates and lots of them?! As I made my way down the carpet, Pirates were found everywhere and don’t make the mistake I did and call them “Scallywags!” I was chased with a sword, literally! Pirates of the Caribbean fans take their pirating seriously! And when asked to join in on a rendition of “Yo, Ho, Ho…” the pirates followed suit and joined in as if they had been practicing for years.
While Pirates of the Caribbean movie is known for the famous “Jack Sparrow” and his Mick Jagger like personality, I enjoyed this movie introducing “new” pirates into the film, including a small part by the Beatle Paul McCartney! In this installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, we learn a bit about Jack’s past and meet Henry (son of Will Turner) and Carina Smyth (astronomer looking for clues to her Father).
AlthoughBrenton Thwaites (Henry Turner) and Kaya Scodelario (Carina Smyth) are newcomers to the Pirates of the Caribbean films they fell into their roles with ease. Kaya brought a strong female presence to the film, you know how I love me some Girl Power, and Brenton ignites the screen with his good looks and likable character. I enjoyed the chemistry between the two and of course their chemistry with the lovable Jack Sparrow!
What’s a red carpet without some gorgeous celebrity spottings?! From Joey Lawrence to Captain Barbossa himself (Geoffrey Rush) the carpet was hopping with famous faces! Did I mention, Javier Bardem totally made eye contact with me on the carpet?! Yes, I was swooning all over the place when I ran into him. Can you believe he plays the “bad guy” so perfectly in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales? As Captain Salazar, he is totally out for REVENGE and on a mission to get it. I don’t want to spoil the movie for you, so I will keep the reasons for his revenge quiet but Javier nailed the part his part in the film!
We made our way into the Dolby Theatre, the SAME place the Oscars are held in, and the actors/actress took to the stage. If you look into the audience (3rd row, left hand side, red top) you can see me sharing the same air with Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and the rest of the amazing talent of the film!
As a Pirates of the Caribbean fan, I can assure you this newest film is full of action, adventure and all of the making for another great Pirates of the Caribbean movie! It will not disappoint and will have you crossing your fingers for a 6th!
Johnny Depp returns to the big screen as the iconic, swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow in the all-new “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.” The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea—notably Jack. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Brenton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifully small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has ever faced.
