Last week I flew out to Charleston, South Carolina to try out the new 2018 Toyota Camry. We were invited on a Southern Road Trip starting in Charleston and ending in St. Augustine, Florida making a few stops along the way to see the sights, learn a bit of the local history and most importantly, check out the 2018 Toyota Camry!
You heard that right! On our Southern Road Trip we were able to drive the brand spanking new 2018 Toyota Camry’s to each destination along the way. Make sure to check back tomorrow, I will go into a bit more detail on the new cars and features to can look forward to seeing!
But first, I want to share my experience of Day ONE on our Southern Road Trip adventure! We flew into Charleston, South Carolina and arrived at our hotel, actually we arrived at our mansion (The Wentworth Mansion) where the new 2018 Toyota Camry awaited our arrival! Before entering the hotel/mansion, I must have stood outside and admired the new Camry for a good 30 minutes. I was excited to drive this beauty but that must wait until Day Two! Shucks!
My room at The Wentworth Mansion was everything you could imagine a room at a mansion to be! The 21 room mansion “exemplifies splendor with Italian crystal chandeliers, hand-carved marble fireplaces, gracious hospitality, luxurious amenities.” The mansion was built for Francis Silas Rodgers, a wealthy cotton factor, who exclaimed he wanted to build a mansion with a room for every child he plans to have. Him and his wife Marie Elizabeth Evans Cochran actually ended up having 13 children together so they were true to their word.
The home was passed to a few organizations over the years, first being the Scottish Rite Cathedral, then The Atlantic Coast Insurance Company until 1996. Proprietor Richard Widman then purchased The Wentworth Mansion and began a $7 million renovation to preserve the historic features also adding a bit of modern day luxury. And I was able to stay there, ya’ll!!! It was an experience within itself!
After checking into the mansion, we attended a Historical Tour of Charleston where we basically checked out all the beauty Charleston has to offer. From the churches of all denominations to the huge historical homes.
We ended the day with getting all gussied up and going to dinner with the entire Camry Southern Road Trip crew! But first, a photo opportunity with my bestie on the stairs of The Wentworth Mansion.
And a carriage ride to dinner, ya’ll! When I first arrived to Charleston, I admired the horse drawn carriages which graced the roads. When I found out we were taking one to dinner, I was super stoked! The rain on the way did not even bring us down, it just made the adventure that much more fun!
Dinner was at the Charleston Grill, a South Carolina staple which not only included absolutely delicious dishes but also a unique dining experience with soft jazz melodies.
Before we sat down for dinner, the Camry Southern Road Trip crew posed for a photo. Day one was already a success, I had no idea how the Toyota team would be able to top it. But they certainly did, stay tune because it only gets better from here! And I haven’t even told you about the car yet!!!
