They say laughter is good for the soul but laughter with a few of your closest friends accompanied a great movie, snacks and a few drinks is even better. And after a stressful week starting a new job and having the kids to back to school, that is exactly what I did! Book Club is NOW out on Blu-Ray and I had a great ‘Girls Movie Night’ with a few of my closest friends. We laughed, we ate, we drank and we watched one of the funniest chick flicks I have seen in awhile. The best part, we totally played up the theme of the movie! Check it out.
Diane (Diane Keaton) is recently widowed after 40 years of marriage, Vivian (Jane Fonda) enjoys her men with no strings attached, Sharon (Candice Bergen) is still working through her decades-old divorce, and Carol’s (Mary Steenburgen) marriage is in a slump after 35 years. The lives of these four lifelong friends are turned upside down after reading the infamous “50 Shades of Grey,” catapulting them into a series of outrageous life choices.
It has been many a years since I read the “50 Shades of Grey” novels but watching Book Club, it brought back so many memories of when I did. Like when Diane Keaton’s character was reading the novel on a plane, using the cover of “Moby Dick” to mask the title of what she was REALLY reading. I may or may not have been guilty of doing the same. The ladies in the film totally captured the “experience” of reading the novels perfectly. In tribute to the Book Club movie, my friends and I totally wanted to play up the the raunchiness of the 50 Shades of Grey novels.
When I plan a get together, choosing the right snacks is always on the top of my list. For this particular get together, my friends and I decided little weenies and meatballs would be an appropriate ’50 Shades’ type of snack to serve up. I could not have thought of a better option and it had us laughing and making terrible puns all night long!
What better drink to have at a ‘Girls Movie Night’ than an Orgasm? (Scroll down for full recipe) One of my friends decided she did not want alcohol in her drink, so we totally called hers the “Faking The Orgasm” cocktail.
With all the fun we were having together pre-movie, this movie had some high laughing standards to live up to. And it did. The movie had us cracking up throughout it and like any good chick flick, we were discussing our friendship and the close bonds we have all formed together by the end. I highly recommend seeing it with a few of your closest girlfriends!
