LIZZIE: The Lizzie Borden Story 2018 Movie Review

LIZZIE 2018 Movie Review

LIZZIE: The Legend Of Lizzie Borden is out TODAY, September 21st, in select theaters.  Check out my movie review!

I was able to check out a screening of the new film LIZZIE, starring Kristen Stewart and Chloe Sevigny about the infamous Lizzie Borden.  I’ve been a fan of the Lizzie Borden story as a whole and try to catch movies and or documentaries about the murder of her parents and her alleged part in it.  Check out my full VIDEO movie review below!

Movie Synopsis

Academy Award® nominee Chloë Sevigny (Boys Don’t Cry, “Big Love”) stars as Lizzie Borden, the notorious woman at the heart of one of the most enduring mysteries in American history. After a lifetime of loneliness, Lizzie finds a kindred spirit in housemaid Bridget Sullivan (Kristen Stewart) and their secret intimacy sparks an unthinkable act. Director Craig William Macneill (The Boy (2015), “Channel Zero: Candle Cove”) explores the days leading up to the savage crimes in a dark tale of repression, exploitation and thwarted dreams.

Quick Movie Review Recap

This new film on the Lizzie Borden story gives a totally different perspective from previous stories written and/or filmed.  Not the crazy/wild eyed Lizzie Borden we all have heard of but more of a victim to the era she grew up in where women were repressed and a controlling and crazy father.  Kristen Stewart plays “Maggie”, a maid for the Borden family which we have heard little about and Chloe Sevigny does a terrific job as Lizzie.  You see the relationship between Lizzie and Maggie form and at times, even root for Lizzie to escape the crazy and controlling household.  The movie can move a bit slow at times but that just adds to the suspense because it still IS a film about the murder of Lizzie’s father and step mother.  I enjoyed the film and think it is a must see for those interested in the Lizzie Borden story.
