While Bo Peep makes her return in the new Toy Story 4, she is not the Bo Peep we remember. She is tough, she is fearless, she is Pixar’s newest super hero.
It seems Bo Peep in the new Toy Story 4 has all the makings of a super hero. Not only does she “look” the part, equipped with her staff and super hero cape but she also exudes the qualities which make one a super hero. She is tough, she is fearless and as Annie Potts said in a recent interview, “Her super powers are her heart and her courage. And I think that’s the greatest Super powers of all.“
While in Orlando for the Toy Story 4 press junket, we had the opportunity to sit down with Annie Potts, the voice of Bo Peep, and discuss her role in Toy Story 4. While Bo Peep is not a “new character” persay, she does make her re-entrance into the Toy Story world with a whole new attitude. Toy Story 4’s Bo Peep is a strong, independent toy that don’t need no owner! Along with that she is also a strong female figure little girls will look up to, a female super hero if you will. And Annie Potts was thrilled with the “new” Bo Peep, “This is what a woman is and to young girls, this is what a woman can be. I’m just thrilled to voice those qualities. It is such a privilege when you’re giving positive messages to especially children.“
With Great Power Comes Great Responsiblity
As every good super hero knows, with great power comes great responsiblity and Annie Potts recognizes her responsiblity for the little boys and girls that will and have already started to “look up” to Bo Peep. “There was a little girl there [at the screening] who had on a Bo Peep outfit and I hadn’t seen one except on the thing that I have of Bo who walks around the park. But of course, it’s thrilling. I can hardly wait until Halloween and see all the little girls because she is, I think she’s very relatable. She’s feminine but nobody’s fool. And I think little girls are empowered by that and I think the world is moving that way and I think Bo gives it a nice shove in that direction.“
Super Hero Side Kicks
We all have our tribe of supportive men/women which are our confidants and beacons of our strength. A super hero is no exception and in true super hero form, Giggle McDimples is not only Bo Peeps new side kick but also best friend. And what does Annie Potts have to say about Bo Peep and Giggle McDimples friendship? “Oh what all our best friends do to us. You know, the one you tell your troubles to. It’s a metaphor for your Bestie who’s always right there to hear the best and the worst of what’s going on with you.“
