Air Fryer Fried Twinkie: Lighter Carnival Food Treats

Who doesn’t love the delicious carnival treat, deep-fried Twinkies? I am sure most have heard of the funnel cake batter (or pancake batter) coated snack cooked in hot oil in a deep fryer, making for a decadent dessert and one of my favorite state fair recipes. I can almost taste that creamy filling in those tasty treats, but the calories aren’t something to write home about. I thought of a recipe to make the cream-filled snack a little lighter using my air fryer. Check out this easy and delicious Air Fryer Twinkies recipe.

Air Fryer Fried Twinkie: Lighter Carnival Food Treats

Directions

Open the tube of crescent roll dough and flatten out the crescent roll sheets on a cutting board or flat surface. Cut the croissant dough into squares; this should give you 4 squares of dough to use. Unwrap 4 Twinkies and wrap the crescent roll dough around each. Place the Twinkie in the center of one of the squares, and wrap them with the crescent roll dough. Pinch ends to seal. Spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray and place the dough-wrapped Twinkie into the air fryer basket. Depending on the type and size of your air fryer, times and temperatures will vary. I set my air fryer at 200 degrees F and set the timer for 8–10 minutes, flipping the Twinkie halfway through at around 6–8 minutes. Cook the air-fried Twinkies until they are golden brown, remove, and place on parchment paper until cool enough to eat. Serve the air-fried Twinkies warm with a sprinkle of powdered sugar or a scoop of ice cream.

Hey MandiPie,

Thank you for the recipe. I used it to christen my brand new air fryer. I wanted something whimsical and fun.

I am using an Instant pot Vortex and increased the temp to 300 but kept the cook time the same. I assume the differences between brands can cause different outcomes with regard to doneness.

Once I adjusted for my own appliance, the results were wonderful. Thank you, again!

Paula
