Netflix’s Extraction is a high energy, action packed winner! Chis Hemsworth does what he does best by giving us a hero we can all root for. Check out my movie review!
Netflix’s new movie, Extraction, starring Chris Hemsworth, comes out this Friday April 24th. Set in India, this movie takes my love of Bollywood and my love of Hollywood and mixes into in one big action packed winner of a film! The film is produced by the Russo Brothers (the minds behind some of the great Avengers films) and directed by Sam Hargrave, who also has worked on films such as Avengers Endgame and Infinity War. While this is no Marvel movie this group usually delivers, it does leave us with heroes to admire.

Netflix’s Extraction Movie Review
Extraction centers around Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) who is a mercenary for hire. While the audience is not given much back story on Tyler, one could tell he is constantly battling some sort of demons himself, which led him into a mercenary career. His team is called to rescue Ovi (Rudhraksh Jaiswai), the son of a well known drug Lord, who was kidnapped by a rivaling drug gang. Making the rescue mission even more complicated, Saju (Randeep Hooda) who is a friend of Ovi’s Father, also sets out to rescue the boy on his own.
Of course nothing goes as planned, making the fun twists and turns of the film keep audiences on the edge of their seats. From knife fights, to gun battles, to throwing the kicks and punches; Extraction will give viewers their fill of bloody fight scenes. Action scenes are not the only contributing factor to the enjoyment of this film, the developing relationship between Tyler and Ovi is what seals the deal. As we see Tyler battle his tragic pass, we also see his fondness for Ovi and his transformation from rescuer to protector emerge.
Bollywood Aspect Of Extraction
The film is set in India and gives us that “Bollywood” feel as far as over the top action scenes. While most Bollywood films run a good 3 hours long, this film runs around 2 hours but it felt a bit cut short. I would’ve liked to see more back story on many of the characters, especially Tyler. Being based in India, we also have a mix of languages throughout the film and some much needed subtitles, as many characters are kept authenic in speaking in their native tongue.
Extraction has the perfect mixture of action and heart, I thoroughly enjoyed it! While I would’ve liked to dive deeper into the characters, more back story on Tyler’s past and past relationships, it didn’t take away from the film. It’s the developing friendship between mercenary and captor which sets this movie apart from others of its kind. The growing admiration Ovi has towards Tyler, “Were you always this way? You know, brave.“gives us the hero we are looking for. A very imperfect hero, one with demons, but it’s the way he emerges from those demons which makes him a hero nonetheless. “You drown, not by falling into the river, but by staying submerged in it.”
Rating: 8 out of 10.
