Star Wars Celebration 2022 featured The Mandalorian panel and gave audience members a sneak peek and inside details about The Mandalorian season 3. In 2019, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni presented the first sneak peek into The Mandalorian, 7 months before season 1 aired on the Disney+ streaming service, and so much excitement has followed since. Pedro Pascal, Brendan Wayne, Lateef Crowder, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Temuera Morrison, Katee Sackhoff, Rick Famuyiwa, Rosario Dawson, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo were among the special guests. Check out the details of The Mandalorian panel at Star Wars Celebration and season 3 details and footage.
The Mandalorian Panel & Season 3 Footage
Before showing some surprise additional footage of The Mandalorian season 3 to The Mandalorian panel attendees, Jon Favreau discussed what a dream it has been to spearhead Star Wars TV. Favreau shared, “This type of story I wanted to tell really suited the small screen.” And like everything else surrounding Star Wars films and series, keeping the secrets seemed to be one of the most difficult tasks in the making. “We kept two secrets total the whole time we were on the air. Luckily, they were the two biggest secrets.” This sentiment was seconded by Dave Filoni, who hilariously became agitated every time a panelist mentioned revealing some upcoming moments in season 3.
Pedro Pascal made no secret, however, of the emotions he was feeling being surrounded by Star Wars love at Star Wars Celebration, as he exclaimed, “My heart is exploding. It’s a good last day of my life.“
What The Mandalorian Panelist Had To Say About being A Part Of The Mandalorian
Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian shares, “The most compelling moment for me last season was when Jon and Dave came down and observed. Jon said, ‘You’ve done this a long time, you bought a lot of ideas to it, but I trust you. Do what your instincts allow.‘ When you work with people that allow you to extend yourself, that empowered me.” He went on to talk about how that moment changed his existence as an actor. He said it didn’t go to his ego, it went to his heart. It elevated him and lifted him.
Katee Sackhoff, who plays Bo-Katan, the ever-loyal Mandalorian lieutenant to Pre Vizsla and a proud member of the Death Watch, shares, “My dad raised me on science fiction and he raised me on strong characters. When I was little, we didn’t have a lot of strong female characters to look up to. To be able to play the women I’ve been able to play throughout my career has been such a gift. And strong women keep presenting themselves to me. And the fact that they are women? They are just women.“
When Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who is portraying Sabine Wren, was introduced, the crowd went wild and she took notice, saying, “I feel like I’ve just been adopted into a new family. The most welcoming, creative family. I’ve never experienced anything like this.“
The Mandalorian Season 3 Special Footage At Star Wars Celebration
The Mandalorian season 3 special footage began with a Mandalorian character that looked like Paz Vizsla, holding a large gun, and then the Armorer holding a new Mandalorian helmet in similar light blue Paz Vizsla colors. Viewers see a shot of Grogu flying upside down, as well as a group of Mandalorians on a ship dropping down into a battle. The Armorer is then walking into a very light room and smashing some bad guys with her hammer.
The crowd roared at the sight of the three Babu Frik-looking creatures fixing something. We see Mando sleeping in hyperspace with Grogu in his lap, and then lots of dogfighting, with a shot of Mando and Grogu sitting in the back with a roid. The final scene shows what many might believe is a destroyed Death Star, with half of it blown out. At first glance, it looks to be the Death Star, but some think it may also be remnants of Mandalore.
