Disney’s DISENCHANTED – D23 Expo 2022
It has been 15 years since Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy. Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.
Idina Menzel and James Marden reprise their roles in Disenchanted as Nancy Tremaine and Prince Edward. Menzel shares what the two have been up to since we last saw them: “Their characters have been taking dance lessons and slaying trolls.” Menzel also adds that Nancy has been learning to cook!
Maya Rudolph joins the cast of Disenchanted as Malvina Monroe, and while we aren’t exactly sure what sort of role Malvina plays in the film, Rudolph shares that it wasn’t easy being mean to Amy Adams. She goes on to share that she is a huge fan of the original film and that it was a dream to be a part of the sequel, exclaiming, “We had so much fun together. It was fun being as nasty to each other as we can be.”
As for Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert Philip (Patrick Dempsey), the trailer reveals Giselle announcing she is moving out of the city for the suburban life. And they have a new baby! Tensions between her and her step daughter Morgan (Gabriella Baldacchino), dealing with a new baby, and moving into a “fixer-upper” home has Giselle wishing for a fairytale life. However, that wish has Giselle speaking in a British accent and turning into somewhat of an evil step mother. The trailer ends with Giselle exclaiming, “I wished for a fairy tale life and everything’s gone terribly wrong… or terribly right.”
