Ingredients
hot dogs (hot dog sausages)
fresh hot dog buns
ketchup
Directions
Fill a large pot of water and bring it to a boil. Remove the hot dogs from the packaging and place them on a cutting board. Start by cutting the “nail” shape at the top of the hot dog with a sharp knife or a good pairing knife. Using your own nail for reference, trace out the shape lightly using a paring knife with a slightly curved slice. Carefully peel off the fingernail piece, the outer layer of hot dog skin, from the bottom nail bed to reveal the sides of the fingernail.
Next cut 3 straight lines under the nail bed of the hot dog finger being careful not to cut all the way through but straight across. Finally move down to the middle of the hot dog and cut the knuckle shape using a slight curved slice. Start with a semi circle facing down, followed by two straight lines, and then a semi-circle facing up to complete the new knuckle. Complete the steps with the remaining hot dogs.
Place the hot dog fingers in the hot water and boil hot dogs according to package instructions, around 4-5 minutes. After hot dogs are boiled, drain them and then fry for a few minutes in a hot pan or air fryer until golden, to give it that real, spooky and extra creepy effect. Dip the end of the hot dog finger in a generous amount of ketchup “blood” and add a little bit of ketchup to the top of the bun to give it that bloody finger hot dogs or severed finger hot dogs look.
This Halloween hot dogs recipe can be spiced up by adding a thinly sliced square piece of white onion to the hot dog witches fingers. Your hotdog fingers Halloween can be stored cold, in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
Note: These Halloween hot dog fingers can also be made using puff pastry or crescent dough, carving crescent slits to the covered hot dog, baking or air frying, and placing a little ketchup to the bottom of the hot dog finger. However, the the hot dog fingers with nails must be sliced before wrapping the Halloween weiner fingers with dough.
