Overall Thoughts

Pain Hustlers is a true story crime drama film directed by David Yates and starring Emily Blunt, Chris Evans, Chloe Coleman, Catherine O’Hara, and Andy García. It is based on the true story of Liza Drake, a single mom who becomes embroiled in a dangerous racketeering scheme at a failing pharmaceutical start-up. The film is based on the Evan Hughes investigative article about Insys Therapeutics.

The film begins with Liza losing her exotic dancer job at a strip club and struggling to make ends meet. She takes a job as a sales rep for Abacus Pharmaceuticals, a small company that is developing a new opioid drug, after a chance meeting with Salesman Pete Brenner (Evans). Liza is quickly successful at selling the drug, and she soon becomes one of the company’s top performers in pharmaceutical sales.

However, Liza soon realizes that Abacus is not what it seems. The company is cutting corners and falsifying data in order to get the drug approved by the FDA. Liza is also pressured to sell the drug to doctors who are known to be overprescribing opioids. Liza is initially reluctant to participate in the scheme, but she is eventually drawn in by the promise of wealth and success.

Pain Hustlers is a well-acted and suspenseful film that offers a cautionary tale about the dangers of greed and ambition. Emily Blunt gives a particularly powerful performance as Liza, a woman who is torn between her desire to do the right thing and her need to provide for her daughter.

The film also does a good job of depicting the dark side of the pharmaceutical industry. It shows how companies are willing to put profits ahead of people, and how they use their influence to manipulate doctors and patients.

Overall, Pain Hustlers is a well-made and thought-provoking film that is worth watching. It is a timely and important film that sheds light on a serious issue.
