The series was adapted from the bestselling novel by M.T. Characters are shown being raped, drugged and raped, a sexual assault, and having affairs. There is nudity in the show, revealing female breasts and a nude rear end, and sex scenes shown on screen reveal couples thrusting and engaging in intercourse. The show revolves around a murder, so there is discussion about that and a scene showing someone being stabbed, as well as getting beaten up. Characters are shown consuming alcohol and partaking in drugs, in the form of a roofie.
