LanguageRole Play contains some strong language, with profanity used minimally. Lookout words include f*ck, sh*t, and d*mn.

Mature Content: The biggest lookout in the film, other than the stronger language, is the violent content. The film centers around an assassin for hire, so viewers can expect lots of hand-to-hand combat, weapons used, such as guns being fired at characters, and sharp objects used to injure or murder characters. There are knife attacks, near stranglings, poisonings, crsshes, death, and bloody wounds. Characters are also shown consuming alcohol.

Age Rating of the Movie Role Play: Amazon Studios Role Play movie rating rating has an R rating by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA ratings) for violence, and language, and the parental guidelines advisory recommends it for mature audiences, an older audience, an adult audience, young viewers, young adults, little kids, older kids, and teens aged 17 years and older. The suggestion of parental guidance or a legal guardian (adult guardian) for this restricted R category is highly suggested for young children, teenage children, and young kids under 17 years of age in this R-rated motion picture for adult material. The minimum age recommendation is 17 years old.

Overall Thoughts

The best part about Prime Video’s new film Role Play is the performances, especially by Kaley Cuoco. Cuoco shines as Emma, a seemingly ordinary housewife with a hidden assassin past. Her comedic timing and ability to switch between roles are impressive. Bill Nighy and Connie Nielsen add humor and gravitas as rival spymasters. The film delivers some well-executed action scenes, featuring Cuoco using her lethal skills.

While the story unfolds in a fairly predictable manner, and the final twist isn’t particularly surprising, the idea of a role-playing game gone wrong leading to an action-comedy adventure is original and intriguing. At times the film struggles to balance its comedic elements with the darker action sequences and the emotional stakes of Emma’s double life.

Overall, Role Play is a fun and entertaining film with some flaws. Cuoco’s performance is the highlight, and the action sequences are enjoyable. However, the predictable plot and tonal inconsistencies prevent it from reaching its full potential.
