Language: Company Musical contains some harsh language that is used throughout the show. Lookout words include sh*t, a**, a**h*le, son of a b*tch, hell, and phrases like “Jesus Christ” and “Christs Sakes.”
Mature Content: Other than the language, the other big lookouts for parents in this musical are the drug and alcohol use and the sexual content. Characters are frequently shown consuming alcohol and being intoxicated, and there is even an entire scene in which a character discusses his alcohol addiction, drinking, and riving. There is another scene that revolves around characters smoking pot and getting high. There are some sexual references and a scene that shows two characters undressing, getting in bed together, removing their clothes until they are in their underwear, and implied sex.

Overall Thoughts
Company, the iconic musical by Stephen Sondheim and George Furth, remains a timeless classic, offering a humorous and introspective look at love, relationships, and the journey of self-discovery. The script is witty and insigtful based on Furth’s book, which cleverly uses humor to explore the complexities of modern relationships, sparking thought-provoking conversations about commitment, marriage, and societal expectations.
Sondheim’s brilliant music and lyrics is the star of the show. The musical boasts a treasure trove of catchy tunes, from the playful “The Ladies Who Lunch” to the poignant “Being Alive.” Sondheim’s lyrics are equally masterful, weaving humor and emotional depth into every song. Unlike traditional musicals with a linear plot, Company presents a series of vignettes centered around Bobbie, a single woman turning 35, and his interactions with his married friends. This innovative structure allows for a multifaceted exploration of different perspectives on love and life.
Company has a unique and striking set design by Bunny Christie, is an “in-your-face” approach, highlighting the claustrophobia and societal pressures Bobbie feels. It is often used throughout the show as a symbol to enhance the story, it transforms into different locations representing Bobbie’s friends’ apartments, a disco, or even a beach, emphasizing the constant movement and lack of stability in her life. Bobbie’s apartment itself is designed to feel cramped and overflowing with people, reflecting the overwhelming nature of her social life.
The ending of Company is open to interpretation, which can be thought-provoking but may leave some viewers wanting a more definitive resolution. The musical also deals with adult themes, including infidelity and marital struggles, which may not be suitable for younger audiences.
Overall, Company is a must-see for anyone seeking a thoughtful and entertaining exploration of love, relationships, and the joys and challenges of navigating life. Its witty humor, brilliant music, and timeless themes ensure its continued relevance and popularity.
