Overall Thoughts

The strengths of Hulu’s Suncoast is in its powerful performances. Nico Parker shines as Doris, the troubled teenager at the heart of the story. Her raw portrayal resonates deeply. Other cast members like Laura Linney and Woody Harrelson deliver solid performances as well, however, some characters are underdeveloped, particularly Harrelson’s, who falls into familiar tropes.

The film tackles relevant themes of grief, family dynamics, and self-discovery in a raw and emotional way. It can be deeply affecting for viewers who connect with the characters’ struggles. Some viewers may find the plot a bit predictable and lacking the depth to fully explore its themes. The pacing can also feel uneven at times.

Hulu’s Suncoast is a well-acted and emotionally engaging film, but it might not be for everyone. If you’re looking for a raw and heartfelt coming-of-age story, it’s worth a watch. However, if you prefer films with deeper exploration of complex themes and nuanced characters, you might find it underwhelming.
