Mardi Gras is right around the corner and although the celebrations and parades this year have been cancelled due to Covid, the good food doesn’t have to be. Who doesn’t love king cakes for Mardi Gras, it is THE food for the day after all and I have made some mini ones for a bite sized goodness. Except the only thing we don’t love is some of the calories it brings. I always try to reduce those extra calories by opting to use my air fryer over frying in grease. And while I am aware that mini king cakes aren’t fried in grease, I still wanted to try to find a recipe which helps reduce the calories. Air Fryer Mini King Cakes Recipe
Ingredients
1 can pillsbury crescent rolls
1 tsp cinnamon
1 TBS sugar
powdered sugar
1 TBS milk
yellow/green/purple sprinkles
Directions
Unroll crescent rolls and separate them into their triangles. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon on each triangles and roll up each triangle, rolling the dough on the longer side. Once it is rolled up then twist into a circle and smash the dough down a bit, as it will “puff” up once they start air frying. Place each in the air fryer and set the temperature low, around 300, and cook around 4-5 minutes. Flip the cakes and turn up heat to around 350 degree for another 2-3 minutes or until they are a golden brown. Let cool. Mix up icing with the powdered sugar and milk and spoon over each king cake. Add sprinkles accordingly and enjoy this easy and delicious Mardi Gras treat!
