Will Rosaline Have A Sequel? Minnie Driver Jokes

I am sure the majority, if not all, of my readers have heard of the story of Shakepear’s Romeo & Juliet. It has been a staple read in schools as well as a famous play that is centuries old. But have these same readers recalled the character Rosaline in the story? Oh yes, Rosaline is a real character mentioned in the play, and as actress Kaitlyn Dever (who plays Rosaline in the film) states, “She has a very, very, very small role in the story. And so, because of that, it was actually a really exciting prospect. You can do anything and everything you want to.” This allowed a bit of freedom with the character, which she said was a blast to play. She goes on to share about playing her, “I appreciate and admire her determination and her fearlessness and her drive.”

Actress Minnie Driver also had a small role in Rosaline, playing Nurse Janet, who was never mentioned in Romeo & Juliet but is a fun and hilarious addition to this film. Nurse Janet is somewhat of a confidant of Rosaline’s, and at one point in the film, Rosaline asks Janet, “Have you ever been in love?” which Janet replies that she has. When asked about this line during the press junket, Minnie Driver jokes about a sequel that could stem from that. She goes on to share about Janet, “You have to have an anchor in a wayward love story/drama and she [Janet] was really funny. It was very good that she was British. That was very smart of Karen to keep her British because British people sound funny.”

If there was a sequel to Rosaline, it sounds like focusing on Nurse Janet would be a good call. Driver says of her character, “I love all the vague resentment and sadness of this lost life that you know nothing about. This film has nothing to do with Janet’s other life, but I like that you feel it there. I love how much she loves her girl and how she wants the best for her girl.”

Rosaline streams exclusively on Hulu today, October 14th!
